Youth Agenda

An agenda for the Kenya youth.
3 key challenges for the youth in Kenya:
a) Lack of any meaningful representation; Kenyan youth are virtually left out in the entire decision making process even in matters that directly affect their lives.

b) Relevant Education and Vocational training; very few Kenyan graduates at any level (primary, o-level or uni and college) can be said to be fully and appropriately equipped with relevant life skills.  Leading to over dependence in the hard to come formal employment. In the rural areas, young people just lack a sense of worth and belonging being that they don’t own the property (read land) that they so diligently toil on. The only source of wealth

c) Patriotism: The youth no longer find a reason to jivunia kuwa Wakenya. Only Patriotism will give the Nation a collective sense of purpose where the individual is able to prioritise God, Kenya, Me in that order and not the other way round.  The lack of it has led to many ills that stem from selfishness and lack of self worth.  Crime, extensive use and dependence on drugs being some of the few that have adversely affected the youth.  There’s a great and urgent need to enable individuals and the entire generation find it’s place in the bigger picture that is the Kenyan nation.

3 realistic opportunities that can be exploited:

    1. Politically – Using our numerical advantage to further our political interests for once!
    2. Socially – Understanding and using to our advantage the fact that we’re a generation that speaks one language – the language of youth!
    3. Economically - Exploring non-traditional industries. IT and entertainment would be a great place to start.  We’re the sole producers and consumers in these industries that have the potential of being multi-million if not multi-billion shillings generating industries annually.

“Every generation must out of relative obscurity discover their mission, after which, they can either fulfill it or destroy it.”
France Fannon – Wretched of the Earth

We’re third generation of Kenyans since independence.  The future of this country belongs to us.  We owe it to future generations to start a culture of transitional politics in this country.  If that be our mission, then we have no choice but to either destroy it like our fathers did, losing out their chance to make the right decisions for their time and forfeiting that God given right to their fathers (our grandfathers) to date, or to fulfill it by taking our rightful place in the decision making process in this country.  For us, for Kenya, for the future.

Ni time yetu!
